Pedicures have been proven, in numerous circles, to be helpful. They don’t just help your feet feel better; when they incorporate things like massage, pedicures can improve your circulation, lessen your stress, and lessen pain. Of course, many of us aren’t super excited about the idea of getting a pedicure from a professional. Professional pedicurists use the same tubs over and over again and there is no way to make certain whether or not their tools are clean. Luckily, it’s possible to give yourself your own pedicures. If you wish to learn how to do your own pedicures, keep reading.

Remove any nail polish using a non-acetone polish remover (acetone is terrible for your health). The next thing you should do is clip your nails straight across and smooth down any rough edges. Use a toenail clipper for this task and not a fingernail clipper. Clippers designed for clipping fingernails have a curved shape and can make your toenails become ingrown and painful.

Try to use a foot bath to get your feet soaked. Try to let your feet stay in the water for several minutes. It is also good to put in things like bath salts, skin softeners or skin soothers to the warm water. This can turn the foot bath into a seriously wonderful experience and help your feet feel really good. Foot soaking crystals are available in just about any bath and body aisle of any department store today. Some are more expensive than others but choose the one you like the best.

Smooth down any calluses or rough patches that could still be there after your foot bath with the use of a pumice. don’t try to use a callus shaver or a tool that is similar. A simple pumice stone is all you really need to use.

Wash your feet after you’ve finished with the pumice. When you have rinsed the dust from the pumice stone and your calluses and any foot soak-ness that is still there, it is time to apply some moisturizing lotion. There are all kinds of foot-centric moisturizing lotions available. Don’t just rub in the lotion (though if you’re in a hurry this is fine). But you have time, try to massage it in. Massaging helps calm down not only your feet but the rest of your body too.

Now that your feet are all clean, free of calluses and have been properly moisturized, if you have time, the next step is to make them beautiful. This is not a crucial step, but knowing that your feet are pretty can help you feel better about the rest of you, even if you keep your feet closed into shoes most of the day. Cuticle pushers are the best option for pushing back your cuticles (trimmers can lead to many injuries and infections). Next, put on a layer of nail strengthening polish. As soon as that is dry, you can try to paint your toes in whatever colors or designs you like.

At home pedicures need not take a great deal of time and are oftentimes more affordable than what you would pay for professional services. They’re good for your entire body so start right now! what are you waiting for?
